In Focus: Shakespeare

Introduce your pupils to the world’s greatest playwright William Shakespeare, with our special edition.

Shakespeare Week was a hit for UK primary schools from 16-22nd March 2015, as they marked almost 400 years since the death of England’s greatest ever playwright. Events, activities and festivities took place nationwide to inspire children and encourage them to explore the works of William Shakespeare.

To celebrate, First News takes an in-depth look at the fascinating life and times of Shakespeare with a 32-page special edition.

“This year, in response to demand, we have extended Shakespeare Week to include all primary ages and families so we are particularly delighted to be working with First News, the weekly newspaper for young people.  Their ‘Shakespeare Week Special Edition’ will be a fantastic resource for teachers in the classroom and a catalyst for conversation and discovery in the classroom and beyond.”   Jacqueline Green, Head of Learning and Participation, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

In Focus: Shakespeare explores what we know about Shakespeare himself (his birth, death, marriage and creative writing) while putting his life into context by looking at Tudor society and big news stories that broke throughout his lifetime – from the plague to the Gunpowder Plot and everything in between.

We compare an original performance of a Shakespeare play when it was first performed, to the big stage and screen versions today, to give pupils a taste of theatre in the 1500s.

In Focus: Shakespeare is a fantastic educational resource that will introduce Shakespeare to your pupils in a fun and informative way.
