STEP 2 FYI News Club Chat: download the accompanying discussion sheet to support your students to discuss the serious, fascinating and silly news items presented in the show. And, to develop their ‘Social Media Savvy’ skills to recognise misinformation with ‘Fake News or Fact?’
STEP 3 FYI Weekly Feedback: Let us know the news stories your FYI News Club want investigated.
What’s On Your Mind? with Dr Alex
The government’s Youth Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex George, presents this series of five films on First News Education TV developed with the Department for Education, Public Health England and Sky Kids. In the series, dedicated to mental health and wellbeing, Dr Alex teams up with FYI presenters, experts and celebrities to investigate simple ways to deal with the pressures of life.
The team discovers the importance of a good night’s sleep, and how exercise and what you eat can have a massive impact on your mind. And they discuss why you should speak up when you’re feeling down.
This chimes with the Department for Education’s efforts in raising mental health and wellbeing awareness across 28,000 schools in the UK, which includes introducing a new part of the national curriculum on mental health.
