Become a Vox Pop school!

vox pop – from the Latin, vox populi, meaning the voice of the people. The modern phrase, vox pop, came into common use in the 1960s and is popular opinion as represented by informal comments from members of the public. These tend to be in audio or video format and broadcast on radio, TV and the web.

We are looking for classes keen to share their ideas and opinions about news stories in the weekly vox pop videos that now link to stories in First News, using our augmented reality app, FN +.

How to get involved?
Sign up to be a First News + Vox Pop School by emailing [email protected] to let us know that you are interested in. Please give your school name, address, phone number and the current age group you work with.

What happens when it’s your turn to record the vox pops?
The week before – we’ll drop you an email and let you know, and to check that will be okay.

Tuesday afternoon:
Once First News has gone to press, we will send you the news report we’d like you to comment on with some question to get you started.

Wednesday:
Record your videos. Please make them landscape. A phone or tablet video is fine. Six to eight children’s comments are ideal with a few minutes of comments altogether.
Send the videos through to us. We recommend you use www.mailbigfile.com as it’s the easiest free, safe video-transferring site we’ve found.

Thursday:
One of our designers will edit your film clips to create the FN+ Vox Pop, upload it and link it to the report in thepaper that your students have given their thoughts on.

Friday:
First News should arrive in schools and homes around the country, and everyone can watch the augmented reality vox pop via phones and tablets to find out your students thoughts and opinions.  We will send you the edited video so you can upload it to your school website or MLE and we will send your class a certificate to congratulate them on being a successful First News + Vox Pop School.
